Janelle Edem

Janelle Edem is the Vice President, Commercial Insurance and General Manager of the UPS Dedicated Unit at Liberty Mutual Insurance. In this role, Janelle is responsible of all account management, servicing matters and general client relationship. She has responsibility for profit, growth and retention of the account, and represents Liberty Mutual as the key customer contact and coordinates issues/activities with supporting

 business groups and departments' management (e.g. Claims, Loss Prevention, Underwriting, Legal, etc.). UPS is Liberty's largest customer and has been affiliated with Liberty for over 80 years.

Janelle joined Liberty Mutual in 2005 as a Consultant, promoted to Senior Consultant, in the Corporate Strategy & Research Group, Liberty's internal management consulting group, tackling various strategic business issues across several business units, including deciding Liberty's direct sales strategy for personal auto insurance in China. She then joined the Workers Compensation (WC) Managed Care group as the Director of WC Medical Bill Review, managing a 250-person operation responsible for the appropriate reimbursement of over 5 million medical bills each year with charges totaling approximately $3 billion.

Prior to joining the UPS Dedicated Unit, Janelle was the Vice President and Manager of the Commercial Insurance Claims Analytics and Operational Reporting group. In this role, Janelle was responsible for leading initiatives to better leverage data analytics across all commercial product lines to drive improved claims outcomes and financial results through in-depth data insights and interpretation, credible predictive models and decision support tools, as well as effective collaboration with our Underwriting and Product Management groups. In 2011, Janelle led a cross functional project team in the successful design, development and launch of Liberty's VantageComp™ Next Generation WC Predictive Model, winner of the Business Insurance 2012 Innovation Award.

Janelle holds an MBA in Strategic Management from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and a BSc. in Mathematics, with a concentration in Actuarial Science, from the University of the West Indies. She is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), an alumnus of LeadBoston and The Partnership Inc. Associates and Fellows management programs, and a member of the Board of Advisors for the Boston Chapter of the National Black MBA Association's Leaders of Tomorrow Program.
